  • New Student Leadership Team

New Student Leadership Team – the first half term

Our new student leadership team began their new roles at the start of the Spring Term. They have quickly adjusted to their new responsibilities and the impact they are making has already been felt. Mr Bedford met with the student leaders on 6th February to find out how they are getting on. The summaries from our head students are as follows:

    Character (led by Rebekah Dalton)

Here is what the character team has completed in the first half term of the term.

    • Held a bake sale to raise money to add desired facilities to the sixth from bathrooms, with a successful outcome of having raised £170.
    • Began organising pastoral mentoring, spoken to members of staff such as: Ms Green, Miss Raja and Mr Foxon to help set this up, we plan for it to all come together after half-term.

Following this, we are in the making of planning a way to recruit sixth form students who want to help us in being a pastoral mentor.

    • Ensured we have people from our branch present at assemblies, on duty and attending the student council meetings.
    • Arranged a slot to deliver a mentor assembly on International Women's Day, which is on March 8th.
    • Spoken to canteen staff regarding healthier food options and listing the ingredients within the food products that are being sold, as requested by members of the student council.

    Culture (led by Zaid Ali)

The Culture team have gotten off to quite a productive start, with both ongoing projects and future plans, but we only hope to introduce more into the school over the coming year and our time serving. We started off with a World Religions day assembly which we presented to main school and we'll also be presenting an assembly about Ramadan (with a small segment about the upcoming Sudan fundraiser) next week. We are also planning to begin our pond project as well as the Finham Flame project. Also, we are planning a main school culture day and a Sudan fundraiser (3 days at break and lunch) which we are waiting for approval from ops. Along with the mentioned projects, we have also been working with the other strands of the head student team on canteen and school food related projects/ideas (providing students with the foods that they want based off of student council feedback), as well as hopefully being involved in the character strand's peer mentoring scheme.

Overall, I think we have made good progress however we hope to improve throughout the year and we are only thinking of more and more ideas to make school a more enjoyable learning environment for everyone so there will be much more to come from the culture team.

    Currency (led by Kinzah Qazi)

It has been a delight leading my team this term, and it is with great satisfaction that I am able to list the many projects that are both in progress and fruition. The academic mentoring scheme is now up and running, advertisements have been posted about the sixth form block, as well as the assembly we delivered on Monday this week.

The march careers fair is still in the planning stages, but not at all short of hands as the currency team will be working together with character to facilitate the major, inclusive and productive evening programme. Budgets have been briefly discussed with Ms Raja, but as the planning develops we shall be holding more meetings post-break.

As the chair for the student council, the whole school culture day I have already consulted a memory of the inclusivity team to pitch to you, which is 1 of 3 projects we are planning. The canteen introduction of Subway and allergens+ meal advisory is being discussed with the representative staff in charge, and the final project is surrounding the lack of awareness of sanitary products at Finham for availability, as well as a pitching project for teachers, to which hindrances regarding the school facilities such as broken chairs should be presented. The student councillors are eager and motivated, but after consulting my peers we've decided to try and implement a more systematic application process for the children who wish to join, as it has come to our attention many of the students attending are not entirely dedicated to the cause, but wish to truant morning self development.
