Rugby - This season sees finham fielding full sides in every single year group 7-11 with a mixed year 11 and 12 development team that will form a long sought after 1st XV next season. Approaching 20 games have been played in the run up to Christmas. Year 7s have made a fantastic start with no losses at the moment and drawing one game. Year 8s have had mixed fortunes this season with a 50/50 record but the introduction of a few new players has meant that things could be looking up for the rest of the season. Year 9s have also managed to field sides that have been competitive against some strong opposition but have ran out narrow losers on a couple of occasions. Year 10 have had to endure the disappointment of many cancelled fixtures but hopefully the new year will bring some new fixtures and also a good run in the coventry cup competition. The year 11 and year 12 team have turned in some excellent performances against some quality opposition and also reached a regional 7s semi-final in the first half of the season. All sides look towards the Coventry cup in the new year and will be looking for some good results to take them as far as possible in these competitions.

Twickenham - A group of 42 students travelled down to Twickenham for Finhams annual trip to the autumn internationals to see Australia vs the Barbarians. The lads got to see some of the best rugby talent in the world playing for Australia and some of the all time greats of the game playing for the Barbarians. In the end Australia ran out easy winners but all the boys thoroughly enjoyed the game regardless.

Thursday 13th October - Boys shine at Coventry Schools Cross Country Relays
Finham Park Cross Country Teams brought back two out of eight trophies on offer at the Coventry Schools Cross country Relay Championships. The year 7 boys continue to show dominance winning with ease. The year 7 B team also managed to finish in 4th overall. There was a nail biting finish to the year 10/11 boy's race. Tom Cox went into the final leg with only a 7 second lead. He had to produce an amazing sprint finish to bring the team home to victory. The year 8 & 9 boys team each finished 2nd. The year 7 girls team finished 4th with the year 8/9 girls team finishing 3rd.

All teams now head into the final league race of the year on the 8th November at Woodlands School. Finham will be taken its biggest ever team. The year 10/11 boys are guaranteed to win, but both the year 7 boys and girls have very realistic chances of also picking up team titles.

Wednesday 5th October - U16 Coventry School's Netball Tournament.
Wednesday saw the final occasion that the Yr11 girls would represent Finham Park School at the Coventry School's Net ball tournament and they finished they're fifth tournament with a bang!

Their opening game was against Bablake which proved to be a game of such high quality netball. They were strong in attack leading for most of the game and held bablake to a tense final minutes where unfortunately they won by one goal. The highlight of the tournament came when the girls played KH8 in their third match of the tournament. KH8 did not expect to play against such a well organised and effective team and were soon trailing behind Finham. The girls played their hearts out and beat KH8, which was thoroughly deserved. Bluecoat followed and were also beaten but unfortunately losing to THW and Coundon meant the girls finished 4th.

The girls have been playing netball together since Yr 7 and they have been one of the most successful teams Finham has seen in and that is down to their hardwork, their team spirit and the high quality of netball they have demonstrated over 5 years. A special mention should go to all the team as they make coaching them a pleasure and they certainly brighten up my Wednesday afternoons. Penny and Becca have been amazing in organising not only the team for fixtures but also holding training sessions. I am extremely proud of them all and they will be remembered for a long time. It's been a blast ladies!

Thursday 6 October 2011 - The Rugby season gets off to a flying start!
For the first time in many years, Finham Park played 4 teams away at Bablake School. Play took place in very windy conditions, but that did not deter our 70+ students who did their school proud by winning 2 out of the 4 games.

In their first game for Finham the Year 7 Rugby team WON 26-5. This squad also boasts 15 other players who were not picked to play in the first team.

The Year 8 Rugby team got the biggest winning margin racking up 37-0.

The Year 9 Rugby team painfully missed out 31-30.

Finally the school varsity team - Year 11 Rugby team Lost 28-20. They were winning for much of the game but unfortunately the game was stopped 10 minutes early, due to a serious injury to Patrick Hughes. Fortunately, Patrick looks set to make a swift recovery.
